Creature- design stage II

Well... for now this is as far as I'm going to take this piece. This was first a foremost a refresher course for myself. Some things I learned is that I dislike my current coloring method. It just feels too amateurish for me, despite any advanced concepts included- I remain convinced that I can execute them better. Also- whilst my semi-chaotic pen work does create an interesting look that both others (i swear) and myself seem to like, it really kills any attempt at coloring. My scribbles tend to create blocked zones for planar separations and other light and shadow whatnots- which add a good deal of fake depth to the image initially, yet force me to add shadow and highlights to zones Id rather not, as well as limit me from adding them to zones which I would prefer. Solution: Don't expect many colored works from me on non cleaned up lineart- unless of course I find some miracle of a happy in between.

the +: I know for sure where my work currently stands and where I need to take it from here, and this isn't half bad for what was most likely a ~1-2 hour creature design from conception to color mockup.

the -: I can do better, I'm sure of it, while this seems fine and dandy for a deviation, its far from anything I'd want to appear in an artbook.
